If you don't mind the traffic and you can feel a kind of melody in the constant sound of the horn, you should definitely take a morning walk at Psiri region in Athens. I prefer visiting Psiri in the morning, even though the place is best known for its nightlife. In the morning you have the chance to mingle with the local working people and to talk to some of the older inhabitants. Moreover, the place is full of antique shops, where you can find things that you couldn't even imagine: from very old plates to a big wooden ice-box, that 50 years ago did duty for refrigerator. Start your walk from Ermou Street and then choose on your right any narrow street you like. In the streets of Psiri you can even find an art gallery, close to a blacksmith's. When you finish your walk and if you're starting to get hungry, ask for the “Kafeneio of Ivi” and, if you're lucky enough to find a table (the place is too small), taste the shrimps and the hummus and drink a bottle of ouzo from the restaurant's wide variety.
