Having visited this next-to-the-nature slow paced and most major city of the Northwest Greece many times so far, I have to warn you. Ioannina offers a unique combined experience, probably unlike of what you have in mind when thinking of Greece.
Walking the full of high and large trees lakefront street downtown with the tall walls of the castle, the visitors have the option of entering the gates and wander through the narrow alleys taking photos of the buildings with the local architecture and go to the museums and mosque from the Ottoman era which can be seen outside the walls as well. The other option is to head straight to the many cafes and clubs of the city where you will find many young people because of the large population of University students. In short distance out of the city are to be explored traditional small villages and towns biding harmonically with the alpine nature of the region where you will also have the chance for extreme sports. Within an hour or two, the sea enthusiasts can find themshelves to one of the many beaches of the picturesque towns of Syvota and Parga or heading to Corfu through the port of Igoumenitsa.
