Cairo is fascinating, eloquent, dirty, exciting, relaxed, fast, and overal a huge melting pot of culture. Cairo truly is the city that never sleeps. The mystique that is in Cairo's air is unmistakable. It reels you in like your a fish caught on a line. Egyptians are friendly which goes against the traditional negative connotation that westerners put on the Middle East. They are always willing to help out a tourist and eager to improve their English. The food is marvelous as well. Though the traditional Egyptian isn't wealthy, they find wonders hidden in many vegetarian dishes such as fool and kosheri. Of course they have such things as pigeon, chicken, and beef as well (No pork though!) As far as night life is concerned, there is quite a bit. Most Egyptians don't drink because of their beliefs, but there are plenty of places to go to grab a beer or cocktail. Or you could always grab some sheesha which is vaporized tobacco smoke. This truly is a local favorite. A visit to Cairo isn't complete without going to such places as Khan al Khalili, the Egyptian local market, in which you can buy anything and everything. Beware, knowing your a tourist, venders will try to rip you off! But 1/2 the fun in Egypt, is learning how to haggle for EVERYTHING. And of course, you can't miss the Pyramids, Old Cairo's mosques, or the Sphinx. But beware people, get to these places early or you'll be waiting for hours. The Middle East often gets a bad reputation from westerners, but once you visit, you'll learn 95% of the sterotypes aren't true. Sure men will whistle at women, sure it smells a little, sure its dirty, but come to Cairo and be mystified by what it has to offer.
