Roma
The Eternal city has a magical quality about it that attracts both Italians and foreigners alike. Where the magic comes from, who knows? I'd say that it was a combination of the history; a city formed from a vast and breathtaking open aired museum, the weather, food, charming people, architecture and the excited buzz that this mix generates.
There is something for everyone in Rome. There are beautiful parks, museums and churches galore, exquisite shops, fantastic restaurants to suit all budgets and you are only an hour from both the beach and mountains.
The city is very walkable, providing that you have adequate map reading skills, not all the roads are very "Roman!" Also, avoid July and August, unless you want to melt! Depending on your desire for detail the Colloseum, Trevi Fountain, Piazza Colonna, Pantheon, Piazza Navona and Campo dei Fiori can be seen in a day or two. The Vatican City including the museums and cupola requires at least five hours. My advice to you; do not go to the museums in the morning as this is when everyone goes and the queues are unbearable!
Night life is buzzing, especially in the summer months. Campo dei Fiori and surrounding areas are lovely, however, just over the river to the Trastevere area is an Italian immersion that should not be missed (also great for a cheap meal if you're interested!)
The clubs are located in an area beyond Trasvevere called Testaccio, walkable, but a shared taxi is advisable!
Roma is a meraviglia! Go there, breakfast on a cappucino and cornetto, sample an ice cream (from Ciampini) in the afternoon and walk the streets serenaded by the music of this magical city.
Be patient, "Rome wasn't built in a day" and the Romans do like to take their time but good things come to who wait...
