Located in Central Macedonia, the peninsula of Chalkidiki is a very big area that can cover every need: hundreds of beaches lie in the 3 "legs" of the peninsula, mountains covered with fir trees, boutique hotels, all inclusive resorts, free campers, alternative beach bars, family-run fish taverns and gourmet restaurants. Most people from North Greece choose Chalkidiki for their summer vacations and is also very popular to families from North Europe traveling on automobliles, due to the very organised camping sites.
Sithonia is the second "leg" of Chalkidiki. It's more low profile than the 1st leg, Kassandra, but the last few years it's becoming more and more popular. Choosing a beach is a very difficult matter, as Sithonia is full of beaches of every kind. Armenistis beach is one of the top, while the area of Vourvourou is known for the crystal clear waters. Neos Marmaras is the center of Sithonia. Taking a walk at the traditional village of Afitos and visiting Toroni village is a must.
The third "leg" is occupied by monasteries and is accessible only to men. "Agion Oros" as it's called (means "Holy Mountain") is practically an autonomous community where only God governs.
Chalkidiki is an area with many diverse destinations. At summer you can focus on the 3 legs and the numerous beaches. At winter you can visit the mountainous villages. In Chalkidiki the forests are rich and long. Spring and fall are also good because the weather is soft and you can visit all the areas.
