The 5 biggest party of Mexico. (Part 2)
Hello again, because I did not have time to finish my note I decided to divide it into 2, but also did it for another reason. The following 3 parties are of great importance in Mexico and are celebrated throughout all the nation, these holidays are religious or civil character with high esteem in the people of Mexico for years (centuries in fact) and although all are invited to enjoy, respect is recommended.
Rank # 3 Dia de la Virgen de Guadalupe.
When? This celebration is held on December 12 of each year and kicks off what many Mexicans call the "Guadalupe Reyes," which are the holidays that start with the Virgin of Guadalupe and ends with the day of the three Magi (Reyes Magos in spanish). (There are parties, carols, New Year, Christmas, reheated of all the food that you can find in your refri, etc.)
Where?Takes place around the country with church service, block parties, festivals in the cities, fairs, etc.. but where is carried out with more passion is in "Little Village" in Mexico City where is the sanctuary that you can find San Juan Diego Hayate (is where the image of the Virgins is painted).
How is originated?Historians recount that it started around the year 1531, in early December when the Indian Juan Diego was walking up the hill a Virgin appeared to him and asked him to see the bishop, Fray Juan de Zumarraga, and expresses her wish of built a temple with her name on the hill of Tepeyac. No doubt Juan Diego went to the Bishop who did not believe him and command him to return the next day. The next day Juan Diego came back to see the Bishop how after asking several questions said that if he want to believe in that Juan Diego would have to carry a signal. Juan Diego told all to the Virgin who told him to return the next day to give the signal, but in that day Juan Diego did not return because he stayed all day with his uncle Juan Bernardino that was very sick. The next day Juan Diego went to fetch a priest for his uncle to prepare him for death, and on the way the Virgin appeared to him who told him to not be afraid and to go to the top of the hill to cut flowers, but was in the middle of winter so was impossible to find any flowers, but Juan Diego found them, cut all and put them in his cloak. The Virgin took the flower in her hands and asked him to take them to the bishop as a sign of the request. Juan Diego went to see the Bishop and told him all he had heard and seen, and after taking his cloak to show the flowers they realized that the image of the Virgin Mary was imprinted on the cloak (Hayate in spanish) of Juan Diego.
No doubt the Bishop had built a temple in the name of so-called Virgin of Guadalupe. The legend tells that when Juan Diego went back with his uncle Juan Bernardino realized that he had cured, the Virgin also appeared to his uncle and made the miracle to save him from death being the firts miracle of many that the Virgin had made.
Why go there? A large crowd attends every year on 12 December to visit the Virgin of Guadalupe in the Basilica where is the cloak of Juan Diego, thousands of people from all cities gather to celebrate, sing Las Mañanitas, groups of folk dancers dance throughout all the day, we bring offerings, sing or participate in the Service in her honor. Undoubtedly, this festival has become part of Mexican identity. The Basilica of Guadalupe is visited that day by more than 5 million people. It is customary for such pilgrimages include not only faithful and organizers, but called matlachines dancers, who lead the procession up to the basilica.
If you want to unertand the relartion between the mexican and the religion you should to see and be in this party.
