Museo Robert Brady
Many travelers will relate to the spirit in which the Robert Brady Museum was created; Robert Brady, an Iowa-born dromomaniac (travel-addict!), spent his life traveling and collecting fine and decorative art from all over the world. The collection of over 1,300 pieces now remains in his old house in Cuernavaca, a colorful and exciting shrine to his travels all over Africa, the Americas, India, Oceania and the Far East. The rooms, brightly colored and unique, remain exactly as Brady left them. Even the surrounding gardens and patio are full of tropical vegetation, with sculptures sprinkled among the leaves and vines.
Palacio de Cortés
Cortés, after the Spanish Conquest of Mexico, constructed his Palace on the base of the pyramid he destroyed - which is still visible at certain points on the ground floor. Since then the Palace has changed hands from his family to being used as a prison in the 18th century, to government offices in the following century. Today it houses the Museo Regional Cuauhnáhuac, a two-floor exhibition of Mexican culture and history. This includes relics from the pre-Conquest era up until 1910, and a fascinating mural by famous artist Diego Rivera.
Archaeological Zone of Xochicalco
"Xochicalco", in the native Mexican language of Nahuatl translates to "in the place of the house of flowers". Though the flora has dwindled over the centuries, Xochicalco remains one Mexico's most important and well-preserved cultural monuments. Following the breakdown of the great Mesoamerican states (such as Teotihuacan, Palenque, Tikal and Monte Albán), Xochicalco was constructed in a fusion of their different cultural elements.
Borda Gardens (Jardin Borda)
Jardin Borda is a quiet haven in the busy city centre, containing terraced gardens, ponds, fountains and an open-air theater. The garden was used by the Emperor Maximilian and his wife Carlotta for garden parties. The house in which they lived now contains two art galleries housing exhibitions of contemporary paintings and photography.
Center for Linguistic Multicultural Studies at Universidad Internacional
One of the most popular activities in Cuernavaca - take and intensive Spanish course! Universidad Internacional, or UNINTER as it is locally known, is a Mexican University with exceptional Spanish teachers and a friendly, international atmosphere. The stunning campus is peppered with palm trees and vegetation, has five swimming pools and a computer room with free internet access. There are free optional classes such as salsa, yoga, cooking, Latin jazz, capoeira and contemporary dance. There is also ample opportunity to take part in sports such as basketball, soccer, tennis, swimming and self-defense.
That sounds like a great environment for studying Spanish...
