These bridges could easily be characterized as fine art pieces of the local popular architecture. The stone bridges of Kastoria were among the most important passes of the previous centuries, connecting the banks of Aliakmonas and its tributaries. The single arched construction of the stone bridges, the bridges of Zouzouli, Kousioubli, Koromilia, Palia Kotyli and Beriki are a part of the prefecture’s sites.
BRIDGE OF ZOUZOULI
The Bridge of Zouzouli was constructed in 1880. It is single arched and is 25 meters long and 7 meters high. Till World War II it was located on the main path between Western Macedonia and Epirus, connecting Zouzouli to Grevena and Tsotili. Most possibly it was constructed by craftsmen originating from the villages of Konitsa and according to a story, the cost to build this bridge was covered by a driver from Konitsa, whose brother was carried away by the violent water of the river.
BRIDGE OF KOUSIOUBLI
The bridge of Kousioubli was built at the end of the 16th century. It is single arched and has reinforced side openings. Its total length is 33 meters and it is 2.40 meters wide, while its arch is 14 meters wide and 8 meters high. There is a stone relief head on the middle stone of the arch. This bridge used to connect the villages Zouzouli and Eftachori. In 1992 it was renovated to restore its initial form.
BRIDGE OF KOROMILIA
The bridge of Koromilia was built in 1865 and lies at the north of Kastoria, in Koromilia, only one kilometer away from the village, above Ladopotamos River. This too is single arched, 26 meters long, 2.80 meters wide and 7 meters high bridge. The material that has been used for its construction is local limestone. This bridge used to connect Koromilia with Dendrochori, while before the war it was the shortest way from Kastoria to Koritsa.
BRIDGE BERIKI
The bridge of Beriki was possibly constructed in 1866 and it is single arched. It is constructed in a special was, with a quite thin arch so as not to be heavy because it rises high above the ground and covers the distance between the rocky projections that support the piers. This bridge is located at Ladopotamos River, at the south of the villages Gavros and Kranionas and it was possibly built by a craftsman that lived in the area, at the village Debeni, currently called Dendrochori.
BRIDGE OF PALAIA KOTYLI
The Bridge of PAlia Koytli is a single arched bridge that was built in the 19th century.
